Runic Surges have been rebuilt from the ground up as open-world events with waves, elemental bosses and participation medals. The Auction House opens in Misthaven, every crafting guild now gathers there too, and dying finally costs you something.
Highlights
- Runic Surges reworked: waves of spirits, then an elemental boss. Earn a Gold, Silver or Bronze medal for your part.
- Seven new elemental bosses across Tutik Rainforest, Canoram Hills and Blackgrim Wetlands.
- Level Sync: high-level characters are synced down to the surge's level, and you never have to take off your gear.
- The Auction House is open in Misthaven. Buy, sell, watch prices, and buy a recipe's missing materials in one click.
- Crafting guilds move to Misthaven, with a Guild Steward in each starting zone for first-tier crafts.
- Death penalty: dying now costs experience, and can cost you a level.
- The Dwarf player character is male again.
Runic Surges
- Surges now play out like a proper world event. When one is announced, its location lights up and it appears on the minimap and the map.
- Fight off waves of elemental spirits to fill the surge meter, then defeat the boss before time runs out.
- Only one surge runs in a zone at a time. Clearing one can set off the next in a chain, and the weather favours surges of its own element.
- Medals: Gold, Silver or Bronze, based on how much you contributed. Gold pays the full reward. A failed surge still pays some experience if you got past the halfway mark.
- A new tracker at the top of the screen shows the surge's name, level, phase, time left, progress, your current medal and your sync level.
- Surge spirits now have their own loot.
- Fixed surges that stopped coming back after the first one.
New Bosses
- Tutik Rainforest: Tempest Roc (Wind), Bedrock Tortoise (Earth) and Stormhorn Goat (Lightning).
- Canoram Hills: Rimefang Wolf (Ice) and Sanguine Nightwing (Dark).
- Blackgrim Wetlands: Cinderfang Tiger (Fire) and Tidecroak Toad (Water).
- Each boss has its own signature attack and buff, and its own Named entry in the Bestiary.
- Surge bosses see and hear you from any direction, and will come for you whatever your level.
Level Sync
- If you are above a surge's level, you are synced down to it when you join, and restored when it ends.
- No gear check. Everything stays equipped. Gear above the synced level is scaled down to fit, and so are your combat skills.
- Your Weapon Skills stay unlocked while synced.
The Auction House
- A new Auction House counter in Misthaven. Buy crafting materials, consumables, merchant gear, crafted gear and the occasional High Quality (+1) piece.
- Every listing shows its buyout price, next to its last 10 sales. Prices move from day to day.
- Buy Missing: the crafting window has a new button that lists every material you are short for a recipe, with the cheapest price, and buys them all at once.
- Upgrades for you: a filter that shows merchant gear your job can wear that beats what you have on.
- Elemental day sale: on each elemental day, that element's crystals and materials are 15% off.
- Watchlist: star an item and get a chat message when it is listed under your price.
- Curios: a small rotating lot of rare gear and recipes, refreshed each elemental week. Curios only come from enemies you have already met in the Bestiary, so nothing is spoiled.
- Sell your own items: up to 7 listings at a time, at the price you choose. Sales and unsold items wait for you in the Delivery Box at the counter. Listings carry a 1% fee and an 8% sales tax, and buyers only take so much of one item each day.
- Key items, quest items and boss capstone gear are never sold here.
Crafting
- Every crafting guild now has its station in Misthaven, gathered near Elemeen.
- Each starting zone (Highland Plateau, Silvercrest Enclave and Miram Drift) now has a Guild Steward who can take on every craft's first-tier recipes (up to recipe level 10), so no starting path is locked out of a craft.
- Energy Earring is now a crafted item: MP +10. The +1 version adds Magic Accuracy +2. It is no longer sold by merchants, and the Goldsmithing recipe is now level 20.
- The Thornbone Charm recipe now drops from The Ashen Sow (Highland Plateau), and the Hollowbane Rod recipe from Luce (Canoram Hills).
Death & Experience
- Dying now costs 20% of the experience needed for your current level. If you don't have enough, you lose a level, and any gear above your new level is unequipped.
- At the level cap, or while a Limit Break quest is pending, experience is now banked up to one point short of the next level instead of being thrown away. A death at the cap spends that bank first.
Items & Economy
- Vanguard armour has been re-priced to sit properly between the tiers above and below it.
- Journeyman's Pendant price raised to fit above the Bronze Medal.
- Found gear, including the Remnant set, has been re-priced to match.
- Fixed Bonze's Circlet: it now gives Damage Taken −2, not +2.
Quests, Story & World
- Updates to the Dwarven path quests in Blackgrim Wetlands.
- Jaelin Bael has a new look: a true Dark Elf, with a pair of scimitars on his belt.
- Two new graves in Miram Drift honour a pair of playtesters lost to the bears of the Drift. Pay your respects.
- Bestiary entries in the Journal now list each enemy's known attacks.
Characters
- The Dwarf player character is male again, with his beard and hair back. He keeps the shorter, stockier build from the last update.
UI & Other Fixes
- The dialogue box now grows to fit its text. Long lines no longer spill out of the bottom.
- The title screen now shows the game's version number. Please include it in bug reports.
- Weapon tooltips show their warning line separately, so it's easier to spot.
- Fixed Crab and Spider enemies borrowing the Polar Bear's health bar and casting effects.
Known Issues
- Dwarf characters created in the previous update keep the body they were made with. Start a new Dwarf to see the updated look.
- Runic Surges don't have their announcement and victory sounds yet.
Thanks for playing, and keep the reports coming. A lot of this update started as playtester feedback.
